VETERINARIAN AND EQUINE AND PET PHOTOGRAPHER

As a veterinarian and horse and pet owner I’ve seen it all. There’s nothing your horse or dog can do that will ruin your session!

Over the years, I’ve worked with all levels of facilities so no worries if you don’t think your farm is the prettiest place for pictures… I know how to find good light, which will create pretty spots anywhere. 🙂

The Biggest Mistake

The biggest, and really only mistake people make with horse and pet portraits is waiting too long- so if you’re interested in learning more I’d love to talk with you.

GIVING BACK

  • I’ve always wanted my business to be able to give back to our community in addition to blessing animal lovers with special memories.
  • Last year, the Lexington Humane Society and I partnered to create a book, and it was a huge hit!
  • All the participants loved that their pets got to be featured in the coffee table book and felt so happy to support the Humane Society.
  • This year our fundraising project is creating a book about retired racehorses to benefit the Secretariat Center racehorse adoption program, which is located inside the Kentucky Horse Park.
  • I’d love to feature you and your horse in our new book this year!

We're all fighting against time.

Let’s face it. Time is just slipping by! I’m here to help you freeze time and capture memories so that you’ll have them to look back on one day.

These memories just become more priceless as time goes on.

At Molly Evely Photography, we’re here to help you create personalized images that capture your relationship. We want you and your dog or horse to tell the story.

It can be stressful working with a new photographer. That’s why everyone gets a pre-session consultation so that you can share about the types of images you want to create so that you won’t get overly-posed, emotionless photographs.

You want images that make you feel something and invoke an emotion so that you can relax and enjoy the experience with your dog or horse.

"It was all I thought about today. You were wonderful to work with and it was fun!"

Molly came out to photograph my 2 Thoroughbreds and to say that she is the best is an understatement! In a questionnaire she did, there was a question on it asking how I wanted to feel in these photos. I put down that I wanted to feel like I did it, that I accomplished my goals! Molly helped me to create that and so much more! She is such a professional and she truly has a gift! I will CHERISH the photos she captured for the rest of my life!! Thank you Molly for the beautiful photos!!

Last night we did a family photo session with Molly Evely Photography, and it was the most incredible experience. It was a true family effort. We’ve never done professional photos before. I always felt overwhelmed by emotions when considering them, but I was finally able to face those emotions. I don’t want to miss any more opportunities to commemorate this beautiful life. I have so much to be thankful for. Thank you, Molly!

THOSE MOMENTS

You never want to forget

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How should I prepare my horse for a portrait session?

ANSWER: I suggest starting the day out with a some exercise. Go for a ride then you can start your horse’s beauty routine. Prepare your horse as if you’re going to a horse show or event and brush them until they shine! We’ll take pictures in a leather halter and/or your bridle so make sure you clean your tack and don’t forget the bit!

** PRO TIP**

  • Ask a friend to take care of your horse’s bath and beauty prep so that you can have your hair and makeup done!
  • Then maybe you can swap and one day you’ll get her horse ready while she’s getting pampered.

2. How should I prepare my dog for a portrait session?

ANSWER: I suggest scheduling their bath and grooming appointment about 3 days before their session.

If your dog has long hair around their eyes please get it clipped for pictures- it makes it really difficult for cameras to focus on the eye with that long hair.

3. My dog isn’t well behaved and I have to keep him on  leash- can I get nice pictures?

ANSWER: YES! Most of the dogs I work with are actually on  a leash and standing next to their owners. I can removed collars, leashes and even people from the final image.

The only thing I don’t remove during editing is a harness. My dog has a ton of energy so I understand the concern but there is no time limit- so no stress! I’m there until we get some good images!

4. How much do horse or dog pictures cost?

ANSWER: All sessions are custom and investment varies on how many portraits are purchased- you only buy the ones you love!

A $650 session fee is due at booking to hold your date. That includes:

  • $500 product credit.
  • Consultation with outfit and posing planning.
  • Creative photoshoot- no time limit.
  • View and order appointment of professionally edited images.

5. Do you offer gift cards for dog and horse pictures?

You can find them here.

8. What’s the best time and location for dog or horse pictures?

ANSWER: We can schedule your portrait session for early in the morning just after sunrise or in the evening about 2 hours before sunset.

In the summer, that’s around 7pm and in the winter that’s around 3pm.

For horse session we’ll often take pictures at your farm. We could also meet at the Kentucky Horse Park after a horse show (your horse will already be clean!) or at Masterson Station Park.

For pet sessions we can meet anywhere that your dog is comfortable. 🙂

This is Kentucky and the weather can change quickly. I’ll be in contact leading up to your session date and we’ll come up with a plan if the weather is looking iffy.

9. How will I receive my images?

ANSWER: Printed artwork can take up to 6-8, even up to 12 weeks depending on how busy the labs are and what time of year it is.

I’ll send your high resolution, print quality digital files to you right away through a beautiful gallery.  You also get an app for your phone so you’ll have quick access to all of your pictures!

10. What should I wear to my picture session?

ANSWER: This is a great question! The general rule is: The better the outfit the better the pictures so take some time here to find clothes that you LOVE, that flatter your shape and coloring!

For my horse and rider session I’ve found 3+ outfits is the sweet spot but we don’t have a time limit so bring all your favorites! 🙂

You could bring show clothes, a casual look, a beautiful dress- really whatever outfits that you LOVE and feel great in.

Since we’ll be moving around a lot and might even be sitting on the ground- don’t pick anything that’s too tight and restricting.

**PRO TIP** I recommend bringing a friend with you so they can help you with your horse or dog while you change clothes.

11.  What if my horse won’t stand still?

ANSWER: I highly recommend exercise the morning of your portrait session. Don’t worry though… these photoshoots are low pressure so your horse can circle as much as he needs and I’ll be ready to capture those moments quickly!

12. Why you should book Molly Evely Photography? Is it possible we’re not a good fit?

ANSWER: I’m a horse crazy girl, veterinarian and animal lover and I specialize in horse and pet photography.

  • Are you are completely crazy about your dog or horse?
  • Does your horse have nicer shoes than you?
  • Does your dog have a bed in every room and a collar for every occasion?
  • Do you leave the horse or pet sitter a BOOK of instructions before you go on vacation?
  • Do you see the time slipping by and want to freeze these moments?  Then you are so smart to be doing this!
  • You and your horse or dog are so worth the investment to capture these memories.
